Students have been attending Sir Richard McBride Elementary in the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood of Vancouver for over a century. In the 2018/2019 school year, we are home to around 350 students in 15 classes.
Our outbuilding is home to four primary classes, creating an intimate environment for our youngest students. Kindergarten students also enjoy their own playground for recess and lunch. The main building accommodates the rest of our classes, including all intermediate classes. There is regular interaction between the two parts of the school through the “Big Buddy” program.
McBride prides itself on its music education program, offered to all students from kindergarten to Grade 7. Our school concerts are a key part of McBride culture. We have two elementary choirs, and they participate in the VSB choral festival each year. McBride students also have the opportunity to participate in sports like basketball, ultimate frisbee and cross-country.
McBride was seismically upgraded in the 1990s (the outbuilding was done more recently) and renovations are underway to make the school wheelchair accessible.
